Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. (Mark 8:34-35)
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for your Son’s example of self-sacrifice and humility. Christ died on the cross so that I could have eternal life. He who was without sin became a sin offering to pay the cost for my sins. Thank you, Lord.
I want to be your disciple. But, sometimes, I have put my plans, ideas, goals, fears, and dreams ahead of your will. Please forgive me. Please change my heart into one that longs for your direction. Please teach me how to deny myself of anything contrary to your will for my life. Please help me to put your will ahead of my own. Lord, I want you to be the leader of my life. Please give me the courage to follow where you lead me, and help me trust you humbly with the outcome. Please teach me to accept hardship and struggle as a means to your purpose.
May my life be an offering that pleases you and that you can use according to your plan.
